HOW BEAUTY PIE WORKS

Why did you start BEAUTY PIE?

We’re a team of beauty-product obsessives (except maybe for the guys on the back-of-house op/IT/finance teams who tend to ‘lean out’ when we’re discussing the marvels of each of our mascara brushes), all with many years of cosmetic industry experience, all who LOVE to buy the latest/most luxurious cosmetics as soon as they launch (like you, right?), but balk at the layers of cost added in to the typical price of a lux lipstick, or the world’s best bronzers, or what can be even sillier – high-tech active ingredient skincare.
With our skill sets combined (we’ve got world-class people in sourcing, packaging, testing, copywriting, design, tech, and product development), we realized we could bring luxury formula cosmetics and skincare to all the girls out there that are just like us, without the multiple layers of added markup. With enough like-minded girls in our club (think of BEAUTY PIE as a buyers club for beauty addicts!) we can all do what we love (source some of the best skincare and cosmetics from around the world) without the stress of third-party distribution deals or hitting high-pressure daily sales targets at department stores. And, by having membership fees to pay our salaries, we can lose the luxury level markups that are typically built-in to pay the middlemen.

WHAT’S THE CATCH?

There isn’t one. We pull together the collective buying power of thousands of discerning makeup junkies to cut out the middlemen. (We do have a minimum 3 month membership, if you call that a ‘catch’.) Soon you’ll be able to shop at our totally transparent Factory Cost not only for cosmetics, but high-tech skincare, makeup brushes, beauty tools, you name it!

Can I buy BEAUTY PIE products without a membership?

Be our guest, but you might want to put a few bags together and look at the bottom line before you decide. Being a BEAUTY PIE member is like having a virtual backstage pass into some of the best skincare and makeup manufacturers in the world. Why wouldn’t you want to buy the latest luxury cosmetics at their totally transparent factory costs?

PRICING

Why can I see two prices for each product?

Each BEAUTY PIE product has two price options; a Regular Price, for those who are perhaps not quite ready to commit to a membership just yet, and a members-only Factory Cost, for those who’ve signed up to join our members’ collective.

What is the Regular Price?

This is the price we charge to non-members for BEAUTY PIE products, which is a competitive price in the current marketplace for a cosmetic product of this quality.

What is the Factory Cost?

Our Factory Cost is the actual cost to us of the product, delivered into a BEAUTY PIE warehouse, straight from a supplier, without any added markups. (If you’re really curious, you can see the transparent cost breakdown of every product on its item page). An example is shown below:

What is a ‘markup’?

‘Markup’ is defined as the amount added by a seller to the cost of a commodity (in this case it’s your cosmetic) to cover expenses and profit when determining the end-selling price. (So a lipstick with a cost of £1.47 that sells for £18 (including VAT), for instance has a 1020% markup). Markups are typical in traditional retailing, because brands first have to pay a large margin to their third-party retailers, then cover expenses like distribution, cosmetic counter staff, trainers and makeup artists, advertising, ‘free’ samples, etc.

How can you offer products at such low prices

We’re hoping that BEAUTY PIE membership fees will eventually pay our salaries and expenses, leaving us to focus on finding and sourcing great quality cosmetics - and soon-to-launch skincare - from leading suppliers around the globe, and bringing them direct to our members without the layers of middlemen or marking up!

What is cost transparency?

At BEAUTY PIE, we transparently unpack the Factory Cost of every product in our collection, so our customers can see exactly what we’ve spent, and what’s being passed along to them when they buy from BEAUTY PIE. That’s what we call Cost Transparency. You’ll see a cost transparency outline for each of our products on its detail page (you’re not just getting a bigger piece of the pie, you can see how much each of the pieces cost) and if you’re curious, there is an information page about BEAUTY PIE product Cost Transparency here.

Why does the Factory Cost of an item change from time to time?

The current Factory Cost of any BEAUTY PIE product is linked directly to the volume we buy – and any saving associated – from our suppliers, labs and factories. So for instance, if we’ve got 100,000 women buying a mascara every month, the Factory Cost will likely be lower than if we’ve only got 1000. (Which is why we say that BEAUTY PIE IS A BUYERS CLUB FOR COSMETIC ADDICTS). Larger quantity orders give us negotiating leeway. That’s why you might see slightly higher (remember, it’s all relative) Factory Costs for some new launches, for the ’ of-the-moment’ trend colors that we don’t buy large quantities of, or for any new product categories we’re testing.

What are HANDLING CHARGES and why do I pay for them?

Logistical partners charge online merchants a fee for picking and packing orders, which are often rolled up together with shipping costs as ‘Shipping & Handling’ charges and then added into your total order cost. We’ve done a lot of negotiating to get our fees as low as possible, and we think you’ll find them to be extremely reasonable.
You can see your Shipping & Handling totals in your shopping cart before you place your order. If you’re sensitive to paying Shipping & Handling charges (which aren’t at all high, but in comparison to the low factory cost of your products might seem to be) we’d suggest waiting a few months between product orders, so you can buy more as your Shopping Allowance accrues each month, and ship less often.

I’M A BEAUTY PIE MEMBER. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY SHIPPING & HANDLING?

At BEAUTY PIE, because we pass products through to our MEMBERS at a totally transparent Factory Cost (meaning you’re buying your BEAUTY PIE makeup without the markup) there’s no added margin that might allow us to absorb the Shipping & Handling costs for your orders. (If we did that, we’d be out of business before we began).
If you’re sensitive to shipping & handling fees- remember that your unused monthly Shopping Allowance accrues – so we simply suggest shopping (and thereby shipping) less often.

BEAUTY PIE relies on collective buying power of all our members to get the hottest new cosmetic formulations - which arrive in our warehouses in waves - at the actual (and fantastically low) factory costs. This is why it is so important that we grow our community and how you can help reduce the price you pay, by simply introducing more of your friends to our membership!

MEMBERSHIP

What do I get for my money?

Having a BEAUTY PIE membership is like having a backstage pass to shop straight-off-the-manufacturing-line from not one or two, but a multitude of world-class cosmetic manufacturers. BEAUTY PIE allows our members to get the hottest new (and bestselling classic!) cosmetic formulations – which arrive in our warehouse in waves – at the actual and fantastically affordable Factory Cost.

Is a BEAUTY PIE membership a subscription?

No. A BEAUTY PIE membership is NOT A SUBSCRIPTION. We’re like a BUYERS CLUB FOR BEAUTY PRODUCT ADDICTS. We won’t send you anything (maybe just a few emails) until you order from us. You can choose exactly what you want, and when you want it, within the parameters of your membership and your available Shopping Allowance.

Do you send out products every month?

No. BEAUTY PIE will only send you products when you place an order with us. If you don’t order anything, your monthly allowances just roll over and accrue until you feel like shopping. You will only lose your Shopping Allowance when you cancel your membership.

Do I get to choose my products?

Yes. BEAUTY PIE is just like any other beauty brand. If you want a new lip-gloss and a bronzer for your upcoming holiday in Bali, go for it! Want to order your best friend the perfect eye-shadow palette? No problem. Simply need an amazing new mascara? Absolutely fine with us.

Are there any restrictions?

Yes, there are. Every BEAUTY PIE membership comes with a clearly stated monthly Shopping Allowance which limits how much in Regular Price value you can buy at Factory Cost each month. (Any unused Shopping Allowance rolls over and piles up, so you still have it as long as you’re an active member.) We may also restrict the multiple of the same product that each member can buy, if stocks are limited, to give all of our members a change to get their hands on hot new items!
Member’s monthly Shopping Allowances are in place to ensure that:
- when new products arrive, all BEAUTY PIE members get an equal opportunity to buy from the PIE.
- we have a good balance of inventory in our warehouse, of new products, member favorites, bestsellers, limited editions and ‘giftables’, so you can get the most out of your membership.

What is my Shopping Allowance?

As a BEAUTY PIE member, you can buy up to £100 / $100 (in Regular Price value) worth of products every month, but you pay the totally transparent Factory Cost. If you’re not a maths whiz and you want to see how this works, just add some items into your shopping bag and you’ll see your Shopping Allowance changing at the bottom of your shopping bag. It’s easy to see how much you’ll save.

What happens if I buy less than my monthly Shopping Allowance?

Any Shopping Allowance not spent in one month will simply roll over to the next, as long as your membership is still active. So if your allowance is £100 but you only spend £60, your next month’s Shopping Allowance balance will increase to £140. If you cancel your membership, however, you forfeit any unused allowance. Don’t forget about your friends: BEAUTY PIE products make great gifts!

PREFER A BIT OF A SPLURGE? Don’t worry, any unused monthly Shopping Allowance just adds up. As long as your membership is still active, you can use it to shop whenever you want, for yourself or for somebody else. If you cancel your membership, however, you forfeit any unused allowance!

Can I buy more in value than my Shopping Allowance?

You can upgrade a monthly membership at any time to increase your Shopping Allowance. Yearly members who want to upgrade can get ‘boosters’ each month until their membership is ready for renewal.

How and when do I pay for membership?

Simply add the type of BEAUTY PIE membership you want; choose from MONTHLY (with a 3 month minimum) or commit for a year (and a gorgeous BEAUTY PIE cosmetic bag with four of our favorite formulas - worth £80 - will be placed, as a gift, in your shopping cart).
You can buy a membership on its own or add it to your bag with your first monthly shop of BEAUTY PIE products (which – if a membership is in your bag – will automatically appear at their transparent Factory Costs).
Active memberships automatically renew at the end of their terms (whether monthly or prepaid for a year) and you can opt out at any time after our 3 month minimum.

How do I cancel my membership?

To cancel your next renewal, simply go to your My Account page where you will find a button that lets you cancel. Don’t forget that cancelling means that any unused Shopping Allowance that may have accrued over the course of your membership will expire.

Lucky you! Please contact our customer service team, and they can increase your Shopping Allowance with the amount your gift membership entitles you to.

Can I use my Shopping Allowance to buy gifts for friends?

OF COURSE you can use your Shopping Allowance to buy gifts for friends. Who wouldn’t? You get the same amazing BEAUTY PIE factory cost on everything you buy for her (or him). Normal Shipping & Handling fees apply.

UPGRADES AND DOWNGRADES

Can I upgrade my BEAUTY PIE membership and buy more products each month?

Yes you can! If you are a monthly member and your cosmetics bag really can’t live on the standard BEAUTY PIE plan, you have the option to UPGRADE. Upgrades can be added to your account at any time, and will kick-in instantly. Unfortunately it is currently not possible to upgrade 12-month memberships.

I have an upgraded monthly membership and I don’t shop quite that much. How can I go back to a basic membership?

If you’d like to adjust your monthly Shopping Allowance back to basic level, please contact us and we will make the change for you.

OUR PRODUCTS

Where are BEAUTY PIE products made?

BEAUTY PIE products are produced at the world’s leading luxury cosmetics and skincare labs and manufacturers. We currently produce products in France, Korea, Italy, Germany, the UK and the USA.

How will I know if BEAUTY PIE products are good quality?

Our products aren’t good, they’re GREAT.
Because we don’t have to pay huge margins to middlemen. Nor do we have to worry about shaving seven cents out of our favorite lipstick, or 25 pence out of our luxury blotting powder to meet our end-of-year budget targets. Our everyday mission is to go out and source some of the world’s best beauty products, and to bring them to our members at their transparent Factory Costs.
Our makeup artists, product developers and sourcing team have panel tested every single product we have in our collection (along with those about to launch) and believe we’re bringing our members the very best in cosmetics (now just wait until you see what we’ve got coming up the pipe in skincare, beauty tools, hair etc.)

Does BEAUTY PIE perform testing on animals?

No we don’t test on animals. At BEAUTY PIE, we test our products exclusively on humans.

Who/what are Earthinks®? (Which I notice you use for all your package printing.)

Earthinks® are among the most environmentally-friendly inks on the planet, are glycol and silicone free, contain no heavy metals, and have a zero VOC level. We’re proud to say that we use them for all of the printing on our packaging.

OUR PACKAGING

IN COSMETIC PACKAGING, LIGHTER IS RIGHTER

TOn first feel, you might suspect that BEAUTY PIE products feel ’light’.
And you’re right.
We haven’t added the usual weights into our lipsticks or compacts. You won’t see us using any over-the-top fancy caps or rigid false-bottomed plastic jars. We’ve chosen plant-based inks and recyclable and recycled board for our cartons. And because it’s difficult on the environment (and the people who have to work with it) we do our best to avoid metallics and foil.
Too much cosmetic packaging currently ends up in landfill, and the more complex the componentry, the less easily it can be broken down for recycling. At BEAUTY PIE, we’re always working to make our packaging as ecologically conscious as possible and welcome your suggestions, comments, and concern.

YOUR ORDER

How long does Delivery take?

I’m still waiting for my order!
If you selected an express delivery option, you can track your order. Just go to your MY ACCOUNT page and find the order in question (or click on the tracking code included in your order confirmation email). Tracking codes are linked directly with our delivery service provider, so you can track your package directly online.

UK Customers

If you chose our standard Royal Mail service please expect 48-72 hours for your delivery. If you have not received your order after 5 working days, please check your My Account page for your tracking code and track it on the Royal Mail website.
For our UK express service, provided by DPD, expect 24 hour delivery. If you have provided your mobile number, DPD will send text messages to keep you updated on your order’s status. You will also be able to change your delivery slot by replying, if the proposed date and time doesn’t suit you.

US Customers

If you chose standard USPS service, please expect up to 7 working days for your delivery. If you have not received your package after 10 working days, please check your My Account page for your tracking code and track it on the USPS website.
If you chose our DHL Express Delivery Service – and as we ship from the UK at the moment- your delivery should arrive within 48 hours. If you have not received anything after 5 working days, please check your My Account page for your tracking code and track it on the DHL website.

An item in my BEAUTY PIE order has arrived damaged.

In the unfortunate event that an item has been delivered to you damaged, please e-mail our customer service team with your name, the order number, the name and a photo of the damaged item, and any other details, and we’ll respond as soon as we can! We’d like to apologize in advance for your inconvenience.

Some of the item(s) in my BEAUTY PIE order are wrong.

If a product you ordered from BEAUTY PIE arrived damaged, or we sent the wrong thing, click here for help, quoting your order number. If you’ve ordered a product in error, click here for the necessary return authorization. Due to safety and hygiene restrictions, only unopened items that are in the same condition that you received them can be returned.
Customers who return products that are not in a hygienic or resalable condition, or return products without prior authorization, will not be credited, and the returned items may be discarded.
